External Affairs Minister of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is visiting the Maldives with the main purpose of putting the two countries on a better footing.
Relations between the world’s most populous country and the island nation known as a resort cooled in February, when the president of the Maldives Mohamed Muizu ordered Indian troops to leave the country and signed an agreement on security cooperation with China.
India’s foreign minister on Friday characterized the Maldives as a “priority” for New Delhi.
