India denies murder of Sikh leader in Canada

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a prominent voice in Sikhism in the Canadian province. He was shot dead in June outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia by two masked gunmen.

According to Justin Trudeau, Canadian intelligence has identified a credible link between Nijjar’s death and the Indian state. He believes that there is therefore reason to suspect that India is behind the murder.

Trudeau says he raised the issue of the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, wanting to clarify the matter.

Now New Delhi has responded to the allegations, calling them “absurd”. This is stated by the country’s foreign minister in a statement.

Both countries have expelled one of the other’s diplomats in connection with the accusations. India announced on Tuesday that it is expelling a Canadian diplomat from the country and Canada as well, according to the BBC.
