Oskar Lindblom was back in Philadelphia last night.
Then the cheers from his former home fans would never end.
– A fantastic moment for me, he says.
Oskar Lindblom is a familiar face in Philadelphia, and in total there were five seasons in the Flyers for the Swede. Over the years, he was an extremely valued player by both teammates and supporters, as he always gave everything on the ice. But he also has a special place in his heart after what happened almost three years ago.
Back in the old arena
During one winter, the shocking news came that Lindblom had been affected by Ewing’s Sarcoma, an unusual type of bone cancer. The entire NHL united, and supported Lindblom in the difficult fight. In the playoffs of the same season, the Swede was back to great cheers, and Lindblom was hugely praised for the fight and how he fought back.
After his return, however, Lindblom found it difficult to make the same impression on the ice as before it occurred, and last year the Flyers bought him out of his contract. Many fans thought it was wrong, but for Lindblom, the move went on to the San Jose Sharks. Last night was a very special game for him, and for all of Philadelphia. His San Jose Sharks were visiting Philadelphia, and there were strong scenes that unfolded during the game.

Incredible tribute
Even before the game, Philadelphia had paid tribute to Lindblom by hanging his old game jersey in the locker room. During the match, the Flyers took the opportunity to show a tribute film to Lindblom during the first commercial break in the match. At the same time, the audience stood up and gave an ovation and a tribute that gave everyone shivers. Lindblom responded by clapping his hand to his heart, taking a small lap around the ice, and few were left untouched.
The San Jose Sharks won the game 3-0, and Lindblom was honest about how much everything that happened meant to him afterward.
– It’s like one big family here. There are good times and bad times, but they are always there for you, always cheering you on. It was a fantastic moment for me and the fans were magical, he says.
Oskar Lindblom was on the ice during one of the Sharks’ goals, but was not recorded for any points. Erik Karlsson, Lindblom’s Swedish teammate, scored a goal in the match.
