Incredibly hard FSK 18 horror that was banned for 13 years

In Eden Lake, a couple actually just wants to spend a relaxing weekend at the lake, but then everything turns into a brutal horror nightmare. What the two have to endure in James Watkins’ shocker was definitely too hard for the FSK at the time. The uncut version of Eden Lake was put on the index in 2009 and the film was only allowed to be released or broadcast in a version shortened by almost 2 minutes.

Eden Lake was finally removed from the index in 2022 and in 2023, according to editing reports, the horror hit was released uncut for the home cinema in Germany for the first time. Tele5 broadcasts the film on Wednesday evenings.

Violent horror experience: Eden Lake is available uncut in home cinema

Watkins’ film revolves around Jenny (Kelly Reilly) and Steve (Michael Fassbender) who travel to the idyllic Eden Lake in the English countryside for a short vacation. However, the planned break from London is quickly disrupted by the provocations of some young people, which become increasingly violent. Suddenly the hunt for the couple is on and it’s a matter of life and death.
