Awards for Jesse Plemons, Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez

Unlike the Oscars, the jury of the Cannes competition has a certain amount of freedom when awarding the prize, which is noticeable this year among the actors. Instead of one award winner, four actresses were awarded the prize for best actress: Adriana Paz, Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez received the prize for their performances in the unusual gangster musical Emilia Perez, in which a former drug lord discovers his life as a woman.

In the men’s category, Jesse Plemons received the best actor award for his three roles in the episodic thriller Kinds of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things).
