Godzilla and Kong divide the world of city-destroying giant monsters between themselves. At least that’s what many fans of recent blockbusters like Godzilla vs. Kong think. There is a sci-fi action competitor with Pacific, who makes it better in every respect. It’s on TV today.

Sci-fi action on TV: In Pacific Rim, mega-robots fight massive monsters

In the world of Pacific Rim are formidable Alien monster entered our earth through an interdimensional portal and threaten absolute annihilation. As a countermeasure, mankind has launched the so-called Jaeger program. The result is giant killer robots piloted by humans like Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) and his brother Yancy (Diego Klattenhoff).

When Raleigh loses his brother fighting a monster, he turns his back on the program. But 5 years later, the situation is more hopeless than ever. The remaining Jaeger will gathered in metropolitan Hong Kong for one last battle. And every veteran is needed.

While the new Godzilla series since Godzilla hides its monsters for a long time and instead whiles away the time with the comparatively trivial problems of the people, Pacific Rim focuses on hard action between the machines and aliens. Thanks to master director Guillermo del Toro, the battles also look absolutely terrific. And if people do move into the limelight, their problems carry real weight thanks to character actors like Charlie Day or Ron Perlman.
