The Algerian coast guard opened fire on 4 French-Moroccan nationals who entered the Algerian waters by jet skiing from the Moroccan resort town of Saidia. In the statement made by local sources, it was stated that Bilal Kissi and Abdelali Merchouer died as a result of the shooting, and Smail Snabe was detained by the coast guard team. It was learned that Mohamed Kissi, who was in the group, was able to escape and return to Morocco.
Mohamed Kissi said in a statement, “We got lost, we continued on our way until we found ourselves in Algeria. A black boat from Algeria came towards us and they opened fire on us. I was not shot, but they killed my brother and friend.”
Kissi said they didn’t try to escape when they were spotted by the coast guard, and that her brother tried talking to the coast guard before he was shot. Expressing that his brother and friend were hit by 5 bullets, and his other friend, who was detained, was also shot, Kissi said that he tried to swim back and was rescued by the Moroccan navy.
There was no official statement from the Algerian authorities about the incident.
