Increased yield of organic grain

In total, the harvest of organic grain amounted to 410,500 tons in 2022. This corresponds to seven percent of the total grain harvest.

Dry weather held back harvest levels mainly in the southeastern parts of the country. But the organically approved grain harvest last year was still 24 percent larger than the average for the last five years, which includes the 2018 crop failure year.

In terms of specific crops, for example, the harvest of organically grown peas amounted to 11,000 tons, an increase of 53 percent compared to 2021.

For autumn rape, the harvest increased to a record 19,000 tonnes, a rise of nine percent compared to the previous year.

The harvest of organically grown food potatoes landed at 33,200 tons, which is on par with how it looked in 2021. Around seven percent of Sweden’s total potato harvest was organically grown in 2022.

The yield per hectare is lower for organic cultivation compared to conventional cultivation. Among other things, this is due to the fact that chemical plant protection agents and synthetically produced mineral fertilizers are not used in organic farming.
