More and more incidents where threats and violence occur are reported in Swedish women’s prisons, statistics from the Correctional Service that Ekot has seen show.
So far this year, twice as many incidents between inmates have occurred, compared to the corresponding period four years ago.
One of the explanations is believed to be increased crowding in the institutions. Three years ago there were empty places in the women’s prisons, but last year the occupancy was 115 percent.
