Increased support for the Olympics in Sweden

Sweden did not receive the Winter Olympics in 2026 due to insufficient support from the Swedish people. Now that the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) is conducting a preliminary investigation to possibly apply for the games for 2030, surveys show that the Swedes’ support is increasing.

In April, seven out of ten Swedes answered that they think Sweden should apply for the Olympics and Paralympics.

And in a new survey, carried out on behalf of the SOK, the Swedish Paralympic Committee and the National Sports Confederation, more than half of Swedes say that they can imagine following the competitions on site in the arenas. And every fourth Swede can imagine seeing both the Paralympics and the Olympics on site.

“The fact that there is so much interest in actually following our athletes in the Olympics and Paralympics on home soil creates the conditions to strengthen the Swedish model and continue the work that the preliminary study has begun. Together, we can bring the world’s largest winter sports festival to Sweden in 2030,” says the SOK chairman Hans von Uthmann in a press release.

The survey, which was conducted by Kantar Public April 4-12, includes roughly 3,300 interviews.
