PENSION INCREASE. The amount of retirement pensions will increase in July 2022. What new amount? For whom exactly? We tell you everything.

[Mis à jour le 7 juin 2022 à 08h16] A stone’s throw from the legislative elections on 12th and 19th June next, a theme is attracting particular attention and crystallizes a good number of questions: the increase in pensions! Indeed, pensions will increase from July 1, 2022. An increase which should benefit the basic schemes to offset the harmful effects of inflation (+5.2% in May over twelve rolling months). But then, what could this increase represent for your monthly retirement pension? In all likelihood, the revaluation should be of the order of 45 at 50 euros per month for a pension of 1,200 euros. The unions, for their part, wanted a revaluation of around 4.5%, i.e. an increase of 54 euros. This increase in wages should be visible on the retirement pension from the following month, namely the August 9, 2022 as confirmed by the Minister of Economy Bruno the Mayor Wednesday, June 1. Indeed, the pension for the month of July is paid at the beginning of August.

This increase in pensions should also be part of the purchasing power bill carried by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. A project which brings together other measures in favor of the purchasing power of the French such as the tripling of the Macron bonus or the establishment of a food check. The texts of this project should be studied in the Council of Ministers on June 29, and in the National Assembly following. Still awaiting the result of the legislative elections on June 12 and 19, and a possible majority for the group LREM in the National Assembly. Measures supposed to respond to the galloping inflation of which the country has been victims for several months (5.2% in May 2022 over one year).

The next increase in pensions should, in all likelihood, be effective from July 1, 2022. De facto, the very first visible increase in pensions will be visible during the first payment, the following month, namely August 9, 2022. .

The increase in pensions on July 1, 2022 would be around 4%. An increase that takes into account the galloping inflation observed in recent months. According to INSEE figures, consumer prices rose 5.2% in May over twelve rolling months. And this figure is set to increase next month with inflation expected to be between 5.4% and 6%. Note that the revaluation of pensions concerns the basic schemes, a gain which should represent 45 to 50 euros for a pension of 1,200 euros. An additional sum that you should be able to observe on your retirement pension paid on August 9th.

The rules for increasing supplementary pensions (Agirc-Arrco, for example) differ from those for basic pensions. These supplementary pensions are calculated from the number of points acquired during the career, to which a value of the point is multiplied. Then, the social partners decide on a possible revaluation of the value of this point. Generally, these pensions are increased every year on November 1st. In 2021, the value of the Agirc-Arrco point was revalued by 1%. It therefore went from 1.2714 euros to 1.2841 euros. Regarding these supplementary pensions, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire was clear: “It is up to the social partners to upgrade supplementary pensions. We will increase the basic pensions.” So, still a little patience to know the next revaluation of the index point.

The overall retirement pension for civil servants consists mainly of the basic pension. A supplementary scheme, the “additional public service pension (RAFP)”, concerns 20% of the amount of the annual gross index salary, at most. De facto, the increase in pensions on July 1, 2022 should be greater for civil servants.
