Increase in pensions confirmed by Elisabeth Borne How much and

PENSION INCREASE. It is now official, basic retirement pensions will increase this summer! What increase? What about the supplementary pensions ? The officials? We take stock.

[Mis à jour le 8 juin 2022 à 08h12] This has been one of the central themes since the re-election of Emmanuel Macron: retirement! And precisely, retirement pensions will be upgraded this summer. Information made official by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne this Tuesday, June 7 at the microphone of France Blue : “It is clear that inflation is high and that we must respond without waiting for the usual date of revaluation of pensions. I confirm that for all pensions, there will be, in July, a revaluation of 4%“. An increase in pensions which will take effect on July 1, 2022, and which will be present for the first time on the retirement pensions of our seniors from August 9, the date of the first payment.

The amount of this revaluation should be between 45 and 50 euros for a pension of 1,200 euros. Close to the 4.5% demanded by the unions who assured that they would go to confrontation if Emmanuel Macron’s purchasing power bill was not in line with its promises. The texts of this project should be studied in the Council of Ministers on June 29, and in the National Assembly following. Still awaiting the results of the legislative elections on June 12 and 19, and a possible majority for the group Together! in the National Assembly. Measures supposed to respond to the galloping inflation of which the country has been victims for several months (5.2% in May 2022 over one year).

The next increase in pensions should, in all likelihood, be effective from July 1, 2022. De facto, the very first visible increase in pensions will be visible during the first payment, the following month, namely August 9, 2022. .

The increase in pensions on July 1, 2022 would be around 4%. An increase that takes into account the galloping inflation observed in recent months. According to INSEE figures, consumer prices rose 5.2% in May over twelve rolling months. And this figure is set to increase next month with inflation expected to be between 5.4% and 6%. Note that the revaluation of pensions concerns the basic schemes, a gain which should represent 45 to 50 euros for a pension of 1,200 euros. An additional sum that you should be able to observe on your retirement pension paid on August 9th.

The rules for increasing supplementary pensions (Agirc-Arrco, for example) differ from those for basic pensions. These supplementary pensions are calculated from the number of points acquired during the career, to which a value of the point is multiplied. Then, the social partners decide on a possible revaluation of the value of this point. Generally, these pensions are increased every year on November 1st. In 2021, the value of the Agirc-Arrco point was revalued by 1%. It therefore went from 1.2714 euros to 1.2841 euros. Regarding these supplementary pensions, the Minister of the Economy Bruno the Mayor became clear:It is up to the social partners to upgrade supplementary pensions. We will increase the basic pensions.” So, still a little patience to know the next revaluation of the index point.

The overall retirement pension for civil servants consists mainly of the basic pension. A supplementary scheme, the “additional public service pension (RAFP)”, concerns 20% of the amount of the annual gross index salary, at most. De facto, the increase in pensions on July 1, 2022 should be greater for civil servants.
