Increase in pensions 2023: an increase in September! By how much and for whom?

Increase in pensions 2023 an increase in September By how

PENSION INCREASE 2023. In September, certain retirement pensions will be increased. Of how many ? What about other retirees and the supplementary pension? We tell you everything.

Bills keep rising, but neither wages nor pensions follow. It is therefore difficult for millions of French people to make ends meet, especially the oldest who no longer work and receive a retirement pension. The latter is only slightly revalued and, with price inflation, makes the daily life of its beneficiaries ever more complicated. In September 2023, a revaluation of certain pensions will take place. However, the number of people affected by this increase will be very limited because very specific criteria must be met, reducing the proportion of retirees who will inherit this increase.

Only the minimum pension is revalued on September 1, 2023. However, this revaluation will only concern those who:

  • retire on September 1, 2023
  • and have a full, full-time career, only paid at minimum wage
  • and who have been wage-earners, craftsmen-traders or farmers.

As of September 1, 2023, these people will receive either:

  • €784.13 gross if they have less than 120 quarters (30 years) contributed to pension insurance
  • €847.57 gross if they have more than 120 quarters (30 years) contributed to pension insurance

This amount corresponds to that paid by the pension insurance and does not take into account any payment from a complementary pension. 200,000 people should be affected by this increase scheduled for September 1.

On the other hand, the other beneficiaries of the minimum pension amount (called minimum contributory) will also see their pension increase a few weeks later: a first wave from fall 2023one second at spring 2024. These increases will be retroactive to September 1, 2023. At this stage, the government has not detailed the terms of this operation. It is still unknown as to those who will be able to inherit it soon and those who will have to wait several more months.

Finally, the minimum amount of retirement pensions will now be indexed to the minimum wage because it must represent “85% of the net minimum wage for a full career at the minimum wage”, said Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq, Renaissance deputy. Each revaluation of the minimum wage (on January 1 of each year and sometimes a second time during the year) will therefore lead to a mechanical increase in minimum retirement pensions.

THE retirement pensions from the basic scheme were increased on Sunday January 1, 2023. The increase was 0.8%. This third increase in one year was part of the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) and allowed the seniors concerned to pocket an additional gain of 12 euros per month for a pension of 1,500 euros, or 16 euros monthly for a basic pension of 2,000 euros.

Like every year (or almost), supplementary pensions will evolve and increase. This will take place at November 1, 2023. However, it is impossible at this stage to know the revaluation of pensions. The calculation system is different from that of the basic pension (accumulation of points during the career to which the value of the point is multiplied) and discussions are underway to determine the new value of the point in 2023, mainly at Agirc-Arrco.

In 2022, Agirc-Arrco had calculated its increase on the evolution of the average salary (4.8%), to which a catch-up of 0.1% on inflation in 2021 had been applied as well as an additional margin of 0, 2% from the average wage. Thus, the increase had been 5.12%.
