It was a promise made by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso’s transitional president, during his greetings to the nation.

Main measure announced: the monthly bonus for VDPs which increases from 60,000 CFA francs to 80,000 FCFA, or 122 euros from this month of January.

Individual insurance against bodily accidents

To this, the president of the transition announced that each VDP would benefit from a “ individual insurance against bodily accidents – leading to permanent total incapacity or in the event of death – as part of counter-terrorism activities “. Insurance whose amount could be up to 3 million CFA francs, or more than 4,500 euros.

On the other hand, the monthly bonus granted to them for their fuel and operating costs has been eliminated. The VDPs will now have to rely on the support of the populations or voluntary contributions.

With these measures, President Traoré significantly strengthens the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland created four years ago to fight against the jihadist insurgency.
