Incomprehension in Utrecht about the decision for children’s heart centers: ‘Seriously ill children will soon have to be moved’

Incomprehension in Utrecht about the decision for childrens heart centers

“This decision has major consequences, in particular for the collaboration with the Princess Máxima Center, which is located next to us. Pediatric oncology patients are treated there and they regularly suffer from heart problems. These seriously ill children will no longer be able to receive acute care in Utrecht. and must, it seems, be moved to Rotterdam or Groningen. That is drastic, also for the parents and other family members. The concentration of child care in Utrecht that we have achieved in five years with the Princess Máxima Center is hereby partly canceled out and that is very unfortunate and painful, especially for the children affected.”
