In Ukraine NGOs deplore the lack of resources in relation

This Wednesday, December 14 is being held in Paris on the second day of the conference for Ukraine, bringing together representatives of around fifty countries to discuss the immediate assistance to be provided to Ukraine to get through this winter of war. Shortages continue in kyiv, the capital, but especially in Odessa, the major Black Sea port, plunged into darkness for a week. Ukrainian humanitarian organizations are trying to deal with the emergency, but the number of equipment from abroad is minimal, compared to the needs observed.

With our correspondent in kyiv, Stephane Siohan

Milan Zaitsev is project manager at Vostok SOS, the main NGO helping the people of Donbass since the start of the war in 2014.

Having just returned from a mission in the south and east of Ukraine, he noticed the lack of means made available in relation to the real aid needs.

So far, he said, we shipped a few dozen, maybe a hundred, generators in total. But of course, this is insufficient, given the enormous needs in the country. Near the front line, the needs are lower than in large cities such as kyiv or Lviv, while the recently liberated regions have been greatly depopulated and this reduces the needs and demand for electricity for these geographical areas. »

Soon an American delivery of Patriots?

For Milan, emergency aid is one thing, but protecting Ukraine would be an even more effective method: ” We really need a lot of equipment to repair the damage, but we also have to defend what we have and what still works. And for that, of course, we need military support. »

As a result, on Tuesday evening, the kyiv media certainly commented on the Paris conference on aid to Ukraine, but the real news of the day was the announcement by the United States of the possible delivery of Patriots, an anti-aircraft missile system.
