Clearing mines and unexploded ordnance is a dangerous and difficult process, as there is an area of ​​almost 140,000 square kilometers to be cleared.

Most of the world’s countries have accepted the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel mines. Finland joined the Ottawa agreement in 2011.

Among others, Russia, the United States and China have not signed the agreement.

According to Human Rights Watch, both Russia and Ukraine have used anti-personnel mines in the war of aggression started by Russia.
