The Ministry of Education goes to war against private and denominational schools. In the eyes of the mission mandated by the Ministry of Education, 255 schools do not meet the various mandatory criteria. They will therefore no longer be able to open their doors at the start of the next school year because they are considered clandestine.

From Lomé to Dapaong, the schools targeted by the Ministry of Education will no longer be open from September. In the Tokoin-Ramco district, the founder of the “Connaissance Plus” school complex does not hide his anger. For Kodzogan Kouto-Messan, only the kindergarten is not yet up to standard. ” Our school has the amenities, but I was told there was a lack of games for the children, so I agree that there were things missing. I am not an underground school. You see, here we are rehabilitating the school. »
If some schools are not even declared, others who have taken the first step have not bothered to ask for approval. The Ministry of Education has therefore taken drastic measures. Innocent Agbéka, president of the Togolese Union of Parents’ Associations, sees these changes positively. ” When I arrive in certain establishments, frankly, I don’t like it. There are people who maybe take their bedroom or living room to create a school. But I’m sure that of the 255 schools, most will make arrangements to be in order before the start of the school year. »
For the mission mandated by the Ministry of Education, the other problem lies in the lack of quality of unqualified teachers. For the parents of pupils the equation is complex since very often they do not want to send their children to public schools far from their place of residence.
