In this memorable double episode from the fifth season, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew from the Starship Enterprise receive the disturbing news that the Vulcan ambassador Spock (Nimoy) has disappeared without a trace. They are tasked with getting to the bottom of the matter and finding out whether the Romulans, who have long been enemies of the Vulcans, have anything to do with Spock’s disappearance. The crew of the Enterprise must resort to a great deal of cunning and disguise to finally reach the Romulan homeworld of Romulus. Once there, they learn of Spock’s true motives: he wants to achieve the impossible and reunite the Vulcan and Romulan cultures that have been torn apart for 2,000 years.
Guest star Leonard Nimoy is said to have initially rejected several episode ideas before coming up with the concept together with the authors Rick Berman and Michael Piller.
