With Britain’s new king by Charles III there are 23 successors in the order of succession.

Charles became king when the queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96.

First in line of succession is the prince Williamwho is Charles and the late Princess of Wales Diana’s eldest son.

William is succeeded by his children. Then it’s his younger brother’s turn Harry and her children.

Further down the list are Charles’ siblings, the prince Andrewa prince Edward and the princess Anne and their descendants.

Inheritance of the throne (you move to another service) regulated not only by descent, but also by statute of Parliament. The order of succession tells in which order the members of the royal family line up to the throne. The basis of inheritance was determined in the constitutional development of the 17th century.

In 2013, the law changed so that a younger son can no longer displace his older sister in the order of inheritance. The change in law applies to those born after 28 October 2011. The change entered into force in March 2015.

When Queen Elizabeth II was born, her father was the Duke of York Albert was second in line of succession to the crown. The crown belonged to his brother, the Duke of Windsor For David and then to the possible sons of this.

However, Elizabeth’s father became king George VI after George V was dead and David abdicated after becoming king Edward VIII just under a year. The reason behind the abdication was the king’s planned marriage with a divorced American woman. This was seen as a threat to the monarchy.

Elizabeth became queen in 1952 when her father died of cancer. Elizabeth ruled for 70 years. Elizabeth’s son Charles became king at the age of 73.

Charles is scheduled to make a televised address to the nation on Friday night. He also meets the Prime Minister By Liz Truss on Friday in London.

Queen Elizabeth’s death begins a period of mourning in Britain. The government-approved national period of mourning will continue until the end of the Queen’s funeral.

King Charles said on Friday that the court’s period of mourning will continue for a week after the Queen’s Funeral. The funeral will be held in about ten days.
