In the United States, a special prosecutor Jack Smith has asked a US judge to impeach the president-elect Donald Trump’s of the charges.
Smith had filed federal criminal charges against Trump for trying to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election and negligent handling of classified documents.
The background is the long-standing practice of the US Department of Justice, according to which it cannot take a sitting president to court.
Trump has said on several occasions that he would fire Smith and settle the lawsuits brought against him as soon as he gets to the White House.
