Former President Trump says the Biden administration is trying to block his election as president. According to the White House, current President Biden did not know about the Attorney General’s decision in advance.
The US Department of Justice on Friday appointed an independent special prosecutor to look after the former president to Donald Trump of criminal investigations. The task of the special prosecutor is to find out whether it is appropriate to bring charges from the examinations.
The investigations concern the handling of confidential White House documents from Trump’s presidency and an attempt to prevent confirmation of the result of the 2020 presidential election through a congressional seizure in January 2021.
Minister of Justice Merrick Garland said that a special prosecutor has been appointed to the position Jack Smith, who has previously been a prosecutor in war crimes cases. Smith has previously been, among other things, to The Hague to investigate war crimes in Kosovo.
Garland justified the decision in the public interest, as Trump has registered to run in the next presidential election and so has the current president Joe Biden has said he plans to do the same. Trump both filed his declaration with election officials and announced his decision to supporters at an event in Florida earlier this week. Biden has not officially registered to run for re-election.
Trump called the appointment an abuse of power
Trump has repeatedly said he is the target of a manhunt and witch hunt. On Friday, he called Garland’s decision unfair and the worst politicization of justice in the country’s history.
Trump commented on the nomination at an event held for his supporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Friday.
– This does not result in a fair investigation. The appalling abuse of power is the latest of many witch hunts, Trump told his supporters.
Trump, in turn, said in an interview with Fox News Digital earlier on Friday that the Biden administration is trying to prevent his election as president.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday that President Biden had not been informed in advance of Garland’s plans. The spokesperson stressed that the administration is not involved in criminal investigations in any way.
Smith, who was appointed as the special prosecutor, made the announcement on Friday statement (you switch to another service)in which he assured that the investigation will not stop or stop under his leadership.
