The National Association of Black Police Officers denounces the exploitation of internal disciplinary procedures against officers who have denounced acts of racism. “ We have an 81% higher risk of being targeted by disciplinary procedures. There is ample evidence that these procedures are being used inappropriately against black officers and employees. But the police have no desire to move forward on issues of racism and inequality », Estimates Andy George, president of the NBPA.

So, bringing in new potential victims is out of the question. Andy George does not recommend young people from minorities to apply. “ If you are a black officer, or one of Asian descent, you often feel paranoid, without realizing that you are actually being discriminated against. We all have the same experience: we do not have access to training, to the same opportunities, to promotions… So, it would not be right to bring in other people, who in turn risk being victims of discrimination and not to be protected. This risks having an even more devastating impact on recruitment [de minorités] long-term. »

However, the association is not calling for a mass resignation of black or Asian police officers. But she calls for the implementation of changes long promised by management, in particular the supervision of internal investigations by an independent body and better representation of minorities in the hierarchy.
