in the opposition circumstantial rapprochements are emerging

While the news is still fueled by dissension within the Lamuka coalition, the opposition is trying to organize itself. Some great figures are meeting in Lubumbashi this Friday to analyze the situation in the country and take stock of the electoral process. How to lay the foundations for a new alliance?

The reconciliation began a few months ago. The first fruit of these negotiations is the joint press release signed at the end of December 2022 by Augustin Matata, Martin Fayulu and Denis Mukwege.

In this document, the three personalities had deplored the general situation of the country, decried the management of Felix Tshisekedi and severely criticized the electoral process. According to information from RFI, Moïse Katumbi had fully adhered to the content of the press release, but could not sign it because he was not yet invested by his political party.

Eight months from the general elections, time is getting shorter and shorter and circumstantial reconciliations are needed and are emerging. Today, Delly Sesanga, Augustin Matata, Moïse Katumbi and Martin Fayulu, all declared presidential candidates of 2023, find themselves in Lubumbashi. Next to them, several other opponents of Felix Tshisekedi. Other personalities are also expected.

However, several questions are still pending, including those related to the format of these exchanges, the nature of the merger and future actions. The other question that arises is that of the position of former President Kabila vis-à-vis this new dynamic.
