Igor Šestjorkin and the New York Rangers have signed a gigantic contract extension.
Russian goalkeeper Igor Šestjorkin and the New York Rangers are making NHL goaltending history, North American sources report. The deal was first reported by ESPN Kevin Weekes and Emily Kaplan.
The club has signed an eight-year, $92 million contract with its goalkeeper.
Šestjorkin becomes the highest-paid goaltender in NHL history, with an average annual salary of $11.5 million.
So far, the highest goalie contract has been Montreal’s With Carey Priceannually 10.5 million dollars. However, Price has not been able to play a single game after the 2021-22 season.
Šestjorkin, 28, made his NHL debut in the 2019–20 season and has played his entire NHL career with the Rangers.
Šestjorkin is now playing the last year of his four-year contract. With that contract, he has earned 5.66 million dollars a year.
Šestjorkin won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender in the 2021–22 season, when he played with a 93.5 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average.
Rangers, who have lost six of their last seven games, also traded their captain yesterday Jacob Trouban to Anaheim and received a Finnish package in exchange Urho Vaakanainen.
