Road House is the remake of the cult film of the same name starring Patrick Swayze. This time Jake Gyllenhaal is the action star and fights with many opponents. MeinMMO author Nikolas Hernes can recommend the brutal action.
What is Road House about?
The original film was released in 1989 and Patrick Swayze thrashed his way through the film with brute force. There are also many brutal brawls in Florida in the remake. This creates a lot of chaos, but it’s definitely entertaining.

Action without much around it
There isn’t really much more to say about the story than in the synopsis at the beginning. The setting in Florida with the swamps is well chosen and the bar is also a good place for good action.
There’s plenty of that in Road House. Bones are broken, objects are destroyed and Dalton shows what he can do. Jake Gyllenhaal is a quite charming Dalton who has relatively little to say. The man just wants his role.
I particularly remember a big scene in the bar in the second third of the film. A huge chaos ensues full of fighting and violence. I had so much fun with that. The chaos is accompanied by the music and there are also quite interesting camera ideas. Conor McGregor’s acting is really terrible, but he works quite well in the film as a psychotic lover of violence.
Through it all, Dalton never loses his arrogant smile and the film feels like a product of another time. There are no stories just of the lone, shady hero who saves a small town. Everything in the film only happens so that the violence can flow freely. Road House doesn’t take itself seriously, but that’s good for the whole thing. There is enough wit and humor to lighten up the proceedings.
Road House is the perfect film if you miss the old heroes of the 80s. There’s chaos and brutal action and it’s really a lot of fun. But if you expect a complex story or unusual characters, you should avoid the film. Another action hero that I can recommend to everyone is Ma Dong-seok from Korea: This Korean action star gives out blows like Bud Spencer
