DUPONT-AIGNAN. Rallyed to Florian Philippot, will Nicolas Dupont-Aignan be re-elected for the sixth time in the 8th district of Essonne? His first round score puts him in a good position this Sunday evening.

[Mis à jour le 12 juin 2022 à 23h39] Nicolas Dupont-Aignan will be there for the second round of the legislative elections next Sunday. The former candidate for the presidential election comes first in the first round in the 8th district of Essonne, territory of which he has been the deputy for 25 years. With 33.34% of the votes according to the results transmitted by the Ministry of the Interior, the one who chose to join forces with Florian Philippot for these legislative elections is ahead of the candidate Nupes Emilie Chazette-Guillet by less than three points since she obtains 30.50%. The former presidential candidate Nicolas Dupont-Aignan came out on top in the 8th district of Essonne, where he has been a deputy for 25 years. In the first round of the legislative elections this Sunday, with 33.34% of the vote, he finished ahead of the Nupes candidate, Emilie Chazette-Guillet, who won 30.50% of the vote. Ensemble’s candidate, Mohmed Bida is defeated with 23% of the votes cast.

In Essonne since he was elected mayor by the municipal council of the city of Yerres in 1995 (a position he held until 2017), Nicolas Dupont-Aignan has been successively president of the urban community Val d’Yerres and President of the Val d’Yerres Val de Seine urban community. If in most of his interviews, the sovereigntist says he is confident for this election, as he explained to the Parisian during the campaign: “If some do not agree with me on the national level, for the post of deputy, they answer me: It’s life and death!” , he does not deny, however, that it is more delicate than the preceding ones. In a video posted on his Twitter account on April 30, he admitted that the “fight” would not be easy, given that he achieved his worst score in Yerres this year in three presidential appearances. Mayor of this city for 22 years, he was however only supported by 10.8% in the first round of the election, far behind Emmanuel Macron’s 27.6% and Jean’s 21.6%. -Luc Melenchon. The observation is even harder when we look at the scale of the 8th constituency: he only won 6.4% of the votes cast, falling to 5th position: a brutal score for an outgoing deputy.

What law proposals from Nicolas Dupont-Aignan when he was a deputy?

Member of Parliament for the 8th constituency of Essonne since 1997, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan was particularly active in terms of legislative proposals during his last mandate. In 2017, for example, he proposed a law aimed at applying the penalties of intentional homicide to drivers who have caused a fatal accident by deliberately violating the highway code and in 2018, he proposed one aimed at facilitating the eviction of squatters from private homes. In 2019, he proposed a constitutional law to develop direct citizen democracy, to moralize political life and to renovate the Fifth Republic.

A year later, we find his proposal to strengthen the penalties for the occupation of housing by squatters, a measure he has often defended during his various campaigns, whether in the presidential or legislative elections. In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, its commitment against health measures began. As such, he notably issued a bill to create a commission of inquiry into the side effects of vaccines against covid-19. His latest bill to date relates to the supervision of the development of wind turbines on national territory. Beyond legislative proposals, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan is in the habit of formulating written questions to the Assembly, on subjects as varied as maternity health insurance, fuel tax or training in the protection of the French population faced with atomic risk.

The one who was also mayor of Yerres did not wish to join the “coalition of the rights”, this call for rallying launched by Eric Zemmour, nor to support the candidates of Marine Le Pen, despite the alliances they have been able to conclude in the past. . It was in Florian Philippot that he found an ally, thus applying in the name of the “Union of France” which brings together the Patriots and Generation Frexit. Nicolas Dupont-Aignan is betting on this merger, but also on his seniority and his local roots, to reach the second round of these legislative elections and possibly win a 6th term as a deputy. However, competition has been organized in the constituency.

Despite the distances he has taken with certain figures of the extreme right, the sovereignist does not contribute alone to these legislative elections. Indeed, it is under the banner of the “Union for France” that he is presenting himself today, under a party agreement with Les Patriotes, chaired by Florian Philippot, and the Generation Frexit movement. Together, they hope to present their candidates in 500 constituencies, which would mean competing with the RN and Reconquête!.

Former right-hand man of Marine Le Pen, Florian Philippot had already formalized his support for DLF on March 14, when he failed to obtain the 500 signatures necessary to run for president. “For the first time, the patriots, the Gaullists and the sovereignists are building a real dynamic of gathering”, to defend “public freedoms, the independence of France and a social model so harshly attacked by Emmanuel Macron”, had-t-t he writes in a press release published by Les Patriotes, his party. Their “Union for France” alliance is therefore launched.

The voters of Essonne will once again discover the name of Nicolas Dupont-Aignan in their headlines. And this time again, it will be without affiliation to the name of Marine Le Pen. Already in 2017, even though his agreement with Marine Le Pen allowed him to be present everywhere in the legislative elections, the RN (FN at the time) having promised not to compete with him in fifty constituencies, he had gone same candidate in the 8th constituency of Essonne. Anxious to “stay free”, he followed the choice of his political party which, during a “great debate”, had decided to play it solitary in the legislative elections, as detailed Le Figaro. He had then promised that he would leave the town hall to run, while remaining a municipal councilor. A word he kept, the law having forced him to choose between two executive mandates. Nicolas Dupont Aignan was fairly easily re-elected MP for the 8th constituency of Essonne, as in every legislative election since 1997.

With such an implantation in the local politics of this region, he appeared able to present himself without having recourse to a political alliance in his constituency. However, if we take the scores of the candidates in the first round of the presidential election at the level of the 8th district of Essonne, we find his far-right rivals ahead of him: Marine Le Pen at 15.19 %, and Eric Zemmour at 6.9%. The chances for the outgoing deputy to win during these elections in his stronghold seem narrow, of course, but this does not mean that he will accept the rallying call of the president of Reconquête!. Indeed, the day after the second round, Eric Zemmour began his far-right crusade to try to convince the RN, DLF and LR parties to join him in a great “coalition of the rights”. To make this “national camp” triumph in the legislative elections, he even assured: “We will not present a candidate against Marine Le Pen, Éric Ciotti and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan. The national union in action” on April 27th. Like the RN, DLF representatives declined this proposal: “Local agreements do not exist”, responded in particular by the Norman section of the party (as reported by West France). Finally, no RN and Reconquest candidate! were placed in competition with Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.
