In the German LoL scene there is an ugly clash between the big streamers on Twitch and the league

There is still bad blood in the German League of Legends scene: Even two months after an incident in the Prime League cup final in LoL, a player from the streamer team NNO is still struggling with a decision by the Prime League. The conflict flares up again on December 17, 2024.

Why is there trouble? There have apparently been difficulties for a long time between the Prime League in Germany and the team NNO, which consists of 5 of the largest Twitch streamers for LoL in Germany.

The final straw was an incident in October:

  • The “NNO Prime” team, organized and financially supported by the streamers, played in the final of the Prime League Cup against the Unicorns of Love.
  • There was a bug with the Sion-Ultimate that the Unicorns of Love complained about. This complaint led to the cancellation and cancellation of a match in which NNO Prime was well ahead. The decision to cancel and restart the match made the streamers feel disadvantaged and treated unfairly. Ultimately, NNO Prime lost the match.
  • Actually, the match shouldn’t have been canceled, but should have continued at the point where the bug occurred. But it was not possible to continue the match because the league could not reach a Riot employee who could arrange a restart, a so-called “chronobreak”.
  • NoWay is the leading streamer for LoL in Germany and the midlaner of NNO:

NNO wants to leave the league after a dispute over the referee’s decision

The incident had these effects: The NNO streamers caused quite a stir with their huge reach and expressed their outrage about the league’s decision live on stream. The mood was heated that evening and there were obviously a lot of ugly words from supporters of the streamers, especially in the chats on the live streams of the league itself and in the streams of the opponents, the Unicorns of Love.

The next day, however, the situation had calmed down when the streamer NoWay gave in and called on its community not to react aggressively and to control themselves. NoWay even announced that it would punish its own fans if they became abusive.

But NNO toyed with the idea of leaving the Prime League after the incident, bringing two Scandinavians or Brits into the team and then competing in the Scandinavian-British league. This was apparently a direct reaction to the referee’s decision.

Instead of a peaceful Christmas, there is bad blood in LoL

This was the current status: NNO has now dissolved in its old form. But the topic is not off the table yet:

Prime League employee asks Karni to apologize for witch hunt

This has now escalated the incident again: The supporter Karni has actually written a conciliatory post on Twitch about the end of the year. However, a leading Prime League employee reacted to this and asked Karni, if he was in such a conciliatory mood, to apologize for his “witch hunt” against a Prime League official, who was the NNO supporter back in October have operated.

But Karni didn’t even think about giving in in a Christmas-forgiving way, instead escalating the conflict from October again: The person deserved to be denounced back then, writes Karni.

He says that the Prime League “wanted to lick NNO’s boots in order to stay in the league”. He doesn’t regret a single one of his tweets.

This is the reaction: Karni’s statement, especially the phrase “licking boots”, and the Prime League employee’s statement are being discussed equally critically on Twitch:

  • His own Botlane partner and sponsor, Broeki, publicly calls Karni to task: One should be grateful to the Prime League, the scene made it possible for Twitch streamers to make a name for themselves.
  • Kevin Westphal from Eintracht Spandau also says the tweets are unnecessary.
  • The wording is generally seen as problematic.
  • Although that is very polarizing. Some believe Karni is justifiably frustrated. He doesn’t have to forgive anything here – the league has to answer for mistakes. Her appearance was “embarrassing”. The Prime League employee has now provoked the reaction with his offensive choice of words “Witchhunt”.

Others, however, say: As a streamer you have to hold back and be aware of your reach. You have to take responsibility for your reach, otherwise thoughtless statements would lead to “incitement” against individuals. Karni is also ungrateful towards a league that has put him in the position of now being able to make a living from content creation.

The worst time for an argument like this

Why is the situation particularly unfortunate? NNO in its “old form” with 5 big streamers would actually be exactly the team that the Prime League needs to generate more attention and attract sponsors. In 2025, after a rule change at Riot Games, it would now be practically possible for the team to play together in this form for the first time.

But right now there is a falling out with the league.

In the Nordic league, on the other hand, where NNO now apparently wants to move, the right teams with big influencers and stars are emerging that can improve the crisis in e-sports.

This is what lies behind it: This is an unpleasant situation. Apparently no one was happy with the solution of restarting the game, including the league. Stepping back months later, however, doesn’t lead to anything.

But publicly demanding an apology could only end in escalation

The situation between NNO and the Prime League also seems to be so tense because a member of NNO, caster Tolkin, replaced the company behind the Prime League as the main caster for LoL in Germany, even though Tolkin himself had once worked for this company . If the driving force “NNO” leaves the league now, that can’t be good for the German scene: LoL: Summoner’s Inn closes after a former employee outdoes them on Twitch
