After Ahsoka, fans have to wait almost a year for a new live-action series from the Star Wars universe. The Acolyte is supposed to offer salvation. The first trailer for the Jedi adventure was released today.

The Acolyte: That’s what the new Star Wars series is about

The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic, an era considered the Golden Age of the Jedi. The story takes place around 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

According to the official description from StarWars.com the “mystery thriller” by “the investigation of a series of crimes, which brings a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-Jae) into conflict with a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more and more clues emerge, they embark on a dark path where sinister forces reveal that not everything is as it seems.”

Behind The Acolyte is showrunner and author Leslye Headland, who caused a stir on Netflix with her series Matryoshka. In front of the camera are Amandla Stenberg (Rue from The Hunger Games), Squid Game lead actor Lee Jung-jae, Dafne Keen from Logan – The Wolverine, Murder Mystery 2 Countess Jodie Turner-Smith and Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss. Wookiee enthusiasts can look forward to Joonas Suotamo, who played Chewbacca in the sequels and Solo: A Star Wars Story and is now playing a Wookiee Jedi Master.

When is Star Wars: The Acolyte coming to Disney+?

Star Wars: The Acolyte will consist of 8 episodes. The series starts on June 4, 2024 on Disney+. There are two episodes to start with. The rest will be published weekly.
