Six years ago we received news that Disney was working on a live-action remake of the wacky sci-fi comedy Lilo and Stitch. After the project was developed behind closed doors for a long time, the first moving images are now available. And they come up with a cheeky twist.
The Disney castle usually stands magnificently at the beginning of each new work from the studio. In the teaser trailer for the live-action Lilo & Stitch film, however, it is broken down into its individual parts. In this case, “in its grains of sand” would be more accurate. Because Stitch is up to mischief on an idyllic beach.

Stitch, a koala-like alien, is one of Disney’s most popular characters in the 21st century. There are Stitch plush toys in every Disney store. It is therefore hardly surprising that the studio chose the idiosyncratic story of the blue alien experiment for a remake.
In recent years, Disney has rebooted several of its greatest classics in live-action form, from Alice in Wonderland to Beauty and the Beast to Dumbo. Now it’s Lilo & Stitch’s turn. How closely the new film is based on the 2002 original is unclear. The teaser captures the right energy.
When does Lilo & Stitch start in cinemas?
The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch opens on May 22, 2025 in German cinemas. It wasn’t always planned that way: the film was originally announced for the Disney+ streaming service. Now Lilo and Stitch are conquering the big screen.
