In Mozambique, more than 1,500 prisoners escaped from a prison on Wednesday amid renewed election unrest.

According to the head of the Mozambican police, at least 33 prisoners died in connection with the mass escape of a prison near the capital Maputo.

On Monday, the protesters took to the streets again, when the country’s Supreme Court confirmed the ruling party Frelimo as the winner of the elections held at the beginning of October. The opposition and election observers have claimed that the elections were fraudulent.
