There was a shooting incident in the Australian capital Canberra on Sunday when a man started shooting in the main terminal of the airport.
The police arrested the man. According to the police, no one was injured.
The airport was evacuated and closed as a precaution, which has led to flight delays.
The shots were not aimed at people
Australian police told reporters that the man had arrived at the airport’s departure area and initially just sat there.
– After about five minutes, the man took out a gun and fired about five shots, a police representative Dave Craft said according to news agency AFP.
The crime scene revealed that the man had shot at the glass inside the terminal. According to Craft, the shots were not aimed at the people present.
The police had no information about the man’s motive.
Flights cancelled
ABC’s on-the-spot reporter Lily Thomson said he heard the shots before people started screaming.
He saw a frightened woman tending to a baby.
– We all ran and I stayed with that grandmother and her baby and hid behind the information desk, Thomson told ABC.
Canberra Airport opened later on Sunday, but some flights had been cancelled.
