In Texas USA a womans emergency abortion was prevented

The Texas case is believed to be the first in which a woman has been banned from having an emergency abortion since abortion rights were widely curtailed in 2022.

In the US state of Texas, the court ordered on Friday that a pregnant woman will not be given an emergency abortion. The 31-year-old mother of two had applied for an abortion because it was determined that the fetus would not be viable after birth for more than a few days.

The court issued its decision after the Texas Attorney General, a Republican Ken Paxton demanded the right to prevent a woman from having an abortion.

The woman and the doctors justified the abortion by saying that the fatal genetic disease diagnosed in the fetus could lead to the loss of the woman’s fertility if the fetus was not aborted. The woman is in her 20th week of pregnancy.

The Texas case is believed to be the first in which a woman has been barred from obtaining an emergency abortion since abortion rights were widely curtailed.

In the United States, the right to abortion was repealed at the federal level in 2022. Since then, several states have passed laws that effectively ban abortion completely.
