Israel celebrates its independence on Tuesday April 25 and blows out its 75 candles. Traditionally, the country honors its fallen soldiers. Monday evening, however, in the large park of the city of Tel Aviv, the Israeli-Palestinian association The Parents Circle organized a ceremony for the memory of the victims of the war between the two peoples.

With our correspondent in Tel Aviv, Leo Bräuer-Potier

Tempers flare near the park. Demonstrators make as much noise as possible to disrupt the ceremony which takes place several tens of meters away. Behind tarpaulin fences, thousands listen to Yuval Sapir, whose sister was killed by a Palestinian bomb:

I met Palestinians. Together, we talked about our sorrows and our common sorrows. A pain that every family who has lost a loved one in this conflict can feel. And if, perhaps, we are ready to meet and listen to each other, our hatred will subside. There will be room for reconciliation and for life. »

Yusra Mahfud speaks loudly under her black veil. This Palestinian mother lost her son during an Israeli army raid: We share the same grief. We share the same pain. Now, more than ever, it’s important to work together. To stop the bloodshed. That’s enough ! »

One hour of speaking, a rare moment to highlight the rules of the israelo-Palestinian conflictforgotten by the policy of Binyamin Netanyahu since his return to power.
