In Switzerland Afghan cyclists get back in the saddle

Far from the great cycling tours, far from the major competitions, it was a rather special race that was held last week in Switzerland, in Aigle, at the headquarters of the International Cycling Union. The women’s championship of Afghanistan, organized for the very first time since the Taliban took over power in Kabul in August 2021…

They were 50 competitors to ride their bikes. Afghan women came from all over the world for the occasion: from Canada, France, Italy, Germany or even Singapore. They have rediscovered the scent of asphalt and that of freedom.

“In Switzerland, Afghan cyclists get back in the saddle”, a great report by Martin Guez.
