In Sweden, several people have been injured in a lightning strike on a soccer field in Lidingö municipality near Stockholm.
– Eight people have been taken to hospital. Three of them have been seriously injured, says the Stockholm region’s press manager Josefine Bergenholtz-Gröndahl news agency for TT.
According to Aftonbladet, the teenage children were playing soccer on the field when a thunderstorm started and the team retreated under the trees to keep out the rain. A huge bang was heard, which turned out to be a lightning strike on one of the trees, said the rescue director Barry Levis For Aftonbladet magazine on the spot.
The rescue service was alerted after seven in the evening local time. When the rescue service arrived, two people were unconscious, TT says.
A large number of police cars, ambulances and ambulance helicopters were called to the scene, which, according to eyewitnesses, arrived within minutes. According to Aftonbladet, there is still “chaos” at the site.
Residents of the area described the lightning strike as sounding like a bomb.
– I have never seen anything like this. Five fire trucks, six police cars, four ambulances, three emergency doctors, two ambulance helicopters, one resident wondered, according to Aftonbladet.
The police and paramedics treated the players of the soccer team, who were shocked according to the Swedish media. According to TT, the municipality of Lidingö has started offering crisis assistance to those who want it.
– We are in close contact with the emergency center. We ourselves quickly decided to start crisis support, municipal manager Daniel Broman told TT.
