Repeated storms have continued in Spain, which last week caused massive flooding in the country and led to the death of more than 200 people.
On Monday, the country’s Meteorological Institute AEMET issued a so-called “red warning” for heavy rainfall in parts of northeastern Catalonia. According to it, the amount of rain can be up to nine centimeters per hour.
In Barcelona, Monday’s heavy rains led the authorities to suspend commuter train services in the area, among other things. The Spanish airline Aena also says that it has canceled 50 flights departing from Barcelona and rerouted 17 flights arriving in Barcelona due to the rain. In addition, several highways are closed due to flooding.
In Valencia, on the other hand, the search for bodies has continued after last week’s floods. Searches have been carried out, among other things, in homes and thousands of vehicles that have drifted onto the city’s streets. Citizens, volunteers and thousands of soldiers and police have taken part in the search.
So far, 217 people are known to have died in last week’s flash floods, most of them in the Valencia region.
