In South Korea, the authorities could not arrest the president despite hours of trying | Foreign countries

The standoff at the president’s official residence continued for hours.

In South Korea, the authorities have suspended their attempt to arrest the impeached president Yoon Suk-yeol.

Authorities investigating corruption tried to arrest him at the president’s official residence for almost six hours. However, the security service defending the president prevented the arrest.

In the end, the authorities withdrew for their own safety. According to them, arresting the president turned out to be impossible due to the stalemate.

Yoon has been impeached for the events of a month ago. The president tried to declare a state of emergency in the country at that time, but the parliament rejected it. According to the opposition, it was an attempted coup.

The court issued an arrest warrant earlier this week. The current arrest warrant is valid until January 6.

Yoon has denied the allegations.

In addition to the authorities, his supporters had gathered in front of the president’s official residence.
