In South Africa the government concentrates criticism from opposition parties

Rise in the unemployment rate, crime, corruption scandals, support of Russia against Ukraine: all these reproaches were formulated during a motion of censure presented by the Democratic Alliance before Parliament, this Wednesday, March 30 2022. A motion doomed to failure due to the comfortable majority enjoyed by the ANC in the National Assembly. This vote was above all an opportunity for a debate in Parliament to put the government and the ruling party on trial and to demand from President Cyril Ramaphosa a ministerial reshuffle from top to bottom.

“You are forgetting someone in this big household,” insisted Veronica Mente of the Fighters for Economic Freedom (EFF) party: ” The Democratic Alliance’s motion of no confidence should not suggest that Mr. Ramaphosa is different from his own ministers. Like them, he did nothing for his population. »

In the face of the attacks, Doris Dlakude, the ANC representative, warned against the efforts of a phantom threat to destabilize the country: We face an enemy whose intention is to attack the foundations of our democracy. »

The ANC received support from other parties considering that only a few ministers were to blame. The no-confidence motion against the government was rejected by 231 votes to 131.
