While Tunisia’s second city has become the hub of illegal departures to Europe, the anger of the inhabitants is expressed more and more openly.
Jumbled up, the organizers of this demonstration – who have created a collective – denounce the security, demographic but also health risk that these migrants would constitute.
A demonstration that comes as clashes between Tunisians and Sub-Saharans are becoming more frequent. At the end of May, a young Beninese man was even stabbed to death in Sfax.
Animosity that comes as many European officials rushed to Tunisia to ask the authorities to step up their fight against illegal immigration. The European Union is currently studying the possibility of returning illegal migrants who have arrived on its soil to third countries considered safe. Concern is mounting in Tunisia. Many voices rising to refuse any agreement of this type.
