In the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, tens of thousands of people gathered on Friday to demonstrate against the country’s government. Protesters gathered in front of the building of the Serbian public broadcaster RTS, where they held a 15-minute moment of silence.
The demonstration was organized by students of the University of Belgrade, who demanded that those responsible for the collapse of the roof of the train station in Novi Sad be brought to justice.
In addition, the students blame the country’s president Aleksandar Vučić and his right-wing populist SNS party for corruption and nepotism. However, the president and his party deny the accusations.
For weeks, students at the universities of Belgrade, Kragujevac and Novi Sad have been demanding the authorities to release documents related to the construction of the roof.
In an accident in the city of Novi Sad last November, a total of 15 people died and two were injured when the renovated roof of the train station collapsed.
