In Poland’s next year’s budget, a historic amount of money for defense | News in brief

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says the country will increase defense spending by billions of euros.

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk says that the country’s 2025 budget contains a historically large amount of money for the country’s defense expenses.

According to Tuski, Poland plans to spend around 44 billion euros on the country’s defense next year.

The increase compared to last year is in the amount of several billions, because in the 2024 budget around 31.5 billion euros were reserved for defense costs. This corresponds to more than 4 percent of Poland’s GDP.

Increasing defense spending even further would bring the share close to 5 percent of GDP.

– It is a big job, but we can no longer turn back, Tusk commented on the budget at the press conference.

Poland has increased its defense spending strongly in recent years, especially after Russia attacked Ukraine in early 2022.

Even in 2020, Poland’s defense expenses were only about 12 billion euros.
