A new face appears in Pokémon GO: Mateo will appear in a few days and brings gifts with him. All you have to do is find him.

Who is this? Mateo is a new NPC that you will soon be able to meet in Pokémon GO. The Researcher can appear at the end of routes as you complete them starting December 4, 2023.

What is Mateo doing? If you meet Mateo at the end of a route, you can do a “gift exchange” with him.

That means:

  • You give Mateo one of your gifts that you found at the start or end of the route or alternatively at a PokéStop nearby
  • Then you choose “Exchange”: You will now receive a gift from another trainer from Mateo

    Why should I approach Mateo in Pokémon GO? Basically, this is another bonus that you should simply take with you at the end of routes. Above all, it gives you the opportunity to receive postcards from trainers who you don’t have in your friends list.

    In the best case scenario, these are postcards from regions that you have not yet noted in the postcard book – and this in turn brings you closer to the different forms of Vivillon.

    Event “Along the Routes” welcomes Mateo to Pokémon GO

    What kind of event is this? The event starts on December 5th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. and ends on Friday, December 8th at 8:00 p.m.

    So it starts a day after Mateo’s debut and also revolves around the new NPC. The event will feature special research that will introduce the character in more detail and also tell more about the gift exchange. It will be exciting to see exactly what bonuses Mateo has in store.

    Niantic also highlights in the announcement that you can now connect the party play feature with routes in order to complete routes together.

    What else does the event bring? “Along the Routes” will revolve around the spawn pool in the wild and also bring other Pokémon into the 7km Eggs. Among other things, the shiny version of Hisui-Sniebel will be available for the first time, which can appear once in the eggs, but also in field research if you’re lucky.

    There will also be temporary research, suitable showcases and some bonuses. These are:

  • Double egg hatching speed
  • Five times the XP when you spin a new PokéStop for the first time
  • Triple XP when spinning PokéStops
  • Double stardust when opening presents
