In Patch 7.1 of Final Fantasy XIV, the boss wants to send you to boot camp: to learn raid mechanics

During the Tokyo Game Show there was a new letter from the producer about Final Fantasy XIV. In it, Naoki Yoshida presents the first features for patch 7.1. Included are new tutorials for mechanics in raids and dungeons.

What kind of mechanics are they? With Patch 7.1 of Final Fantasy XIV, the development team around Naoki Yoshida is implementing new tutorials for raid and dungeon mechanics. In the current letter from the producer No. 83 (via YouTube) Naoki Yoshida introduces a few of them:

  • Collect
  • With this mechanic, as many players as possible must be gathered in one place in order to distribute the incoming damage among each other.
  • Split
  • Here everyone or a selection of players receives an area of effect token that must be moved away by other players.
  • Tank Buster
  • This mark only affects the tanks and triggers a heavy attack on them. Anyone who is standing next to an affected tank at this moment will also receive the damage.
  • Basically, this probably means all mechanics that regularly appear in dungeons, trials and raids.

Off to the mechanics boot camp

What exactly are these tutorials? According to Naoki Yoshida, the new tutorials are a mechanics boot camp. They are implemented as part of the Beginner Arena and are available from level 49. According to the director and producer, they are not compulsory and there will be a quiz after completion.

The beginner arena was originally implemented in patch 3.2, i.e. during Heavensward times in 2016 to 2017. Here there are independent tutorials for tanks, attackers and healers with which you can learn how to play the different roles.

However, there are currently no dedicated explanations for dungeon, raid and trial mechanics in the game. Most players learn what to do while already immersed in the relevant content. This means that theoretically simple content, if the mechanics are known, has to be restarted.

Anyone who works through the new content of the Hall of Novices with Patch 7.1 from mid-November should be prepared with the basics for difficult MMO content in Final Fantasy XIV.

Chaos and Alliance Raid as well as Ultimate – This is coming in Patch 7.1

What other content does patch 7.1 bring? In fact, Patch 7.1 is pretty tough. This new content has been announced so far:

  • New main story quests
  • Chaotic Alliance Raid Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)
  • Alliance Raid Echoes of Vana’diel – Part 1: Jeuno: The First Walk
  • New fatal raid/ultimate A second future (fatal)
  • New orders from the friendly peoples with the Pelupelu
  • New orders around Hildibrand
  • New dungeon Yuweyawata
  • New difficult test

What is a Chaotic Alliance Raid? Chaotic Alliance Raids are all-new content for Final Fantasy XIV. Patch 7.1 releases Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic).

According to the live stream, this is new content for 24-player raids. As in the well-known alliance raids, you face various raids here, but this time at an increased level of difficulty.

First up is Cloud of Darkness (chaotic), which is based on the third part of the A-Realm Reborn raid series about the Crystal Tower. In the producer’s letter, the final boss Cloud of Darkness is shown – albeit with previously unknown mechanics.

According to Naoki Yoshida, the level of difficulty should be on par with the difficult exams. Designer Mr. Ozma oriented himself more towards the epic versions of the 8-player raids.

In fact, balancing content is always a challenge for the team behind Final Fantasy XIV. Main story dungeons in particular, which have to be completed by all players, are difficult to get right: the boss of Final Fantasy XIV was worried that the new dungeons were too difficult – players say: “That’s exactly how it’s fun”
