For several days, the city of Lahore has been shrouded in smog caused by exhaust gas emissions, agricultural burning and air cooling.
In Pakistan’s second largest city, Lahore, the amount of air pollution rose to more than 80 times the limit values dangerous to health on Saturday. According to the World Health Organization WHO, this is a record high amount of air pollution.
According to the measurements, the number of the most dangerous particles in the air was at its worst over 1,060, before it dropped to around 300 in the morning. According to the WHO, all measurement values above 10 are dangerous to health.
– We have never exceeded the value of 1,000 before, said the environmental protection official Jahangir Anwar.
According to Anwar, the air quality index will remain high for several more days.
For several days, Lahore has been shrouded in smog caused by exhaust gas emissions, agricultural burning and air cooling. Smog occurs especially in winter, when the cold air prevents e.g. pollution from traffic from evaporating.
