Luffy’s father only appears a few times in One Piece. A fan of the anime wondered if Luffy and his dad ever lived together. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the pirate adventure, has now answered this question.
Spoiler alert: Here we go into the identity of Luffy’s father and why the two haven’t met yet.
Who is Luffy’s father? Luffy’s father is Monkey D. Dragon. He is the leader of the Revolutionary Army and has little time for Luffy. His grandfather therefore brought him to Curly Dadan, a female bandit who raised Luffy as a foster son.
But even in the moments when Luffy’s father would have had the chance to greet his son, he stayed in the background. That’s why you might think that Dragon would be a bad father. But Eiichiro Oda is now explaining why he left his son so early and broke off his connection with him.

Luffy and his father didn’t have any time together
Why doesn’t Luffy know about his father? A fan was able to ask Oda if Luffy and Dragon ever lived together. According to the mangaka, at least they didn’t live together at a time that Luffy can still remember. So his father must have left him early.
Since he is the leader of the Revolutionary Army, he couldn’t risk his relationship with Luffy becoming known. He didn’t want to put Luffy in danger and therefore left the family. Oda wonders what it was like for Dragon to leave his family and see Luffy again in Logue Town.

What do we know about Dragon so far? At this point we don’t know too much about Dragon. Luffy’s father was once a marine in his past. But he couldn’t get along with the ideals of the navy, so he decided to become a member of the Freedom Army and found the Revolutionary Army.
There is a rumor that Dragon ate a devil fruit that allowed him to control the wind. When Luffy was escaping Logue Town from Captain Smoker, a storm suddenly appeared that helped the Straw Hats escape. However, this information is not yet confirmed.
