in Mykolaiv, the inhabitants of a district bombarded by the Russian army clear the rubble

The counter-offensive continues in the Kherson region. Ukrainian forces attempt a breakthrough from fronts south of Kryvyi Rih and east of Mykolaiv. This port city is regularly hit by missiles which notably affect residential buildings or medical or educational establishments. Report from a downtown area that was bombed last night.

With our special correspondents in Mykolaiv, Anastasia Becchio and Boris Vichith

Employees of a pediatric clinic are busy picking up rubble and broken glass. All the windows of the three-story building were blown out by the explosion, which occurred around three in the morning. The night watchman, the only one present on the scene, survived.

The shelling blew up the children's clinic in Mykolaiv, Ukraine on September 4, 2022.

Svetlana Dmitrieva is the acting director of the establishment.

All our medical boxes were almost destroyed. Here, the wall no longer exists. When we arrived in the morning, the ground was covered with debris. We have already loaded several vehicles with rubble. Almost every night, the city comes under bombardment.

The neighboring building, a teacher training institute, was also badly damaged.

It’s the debris of what landed in front of our main entrance. It was an S300 missile.

Director Vasyl Shuliar sees in this bombardment a response of the Russian military to the counter-offensive in progress in Kherson.

Since our Ukrainian Armed Forces are shelling the Antonivsky Bridge in Kherson, I think they targeted our bridge in retaliation. This bridge is very close to our institute, but as they missed it, we took it.

Last week, a Russian missile targeted the only bridge that connects Mykolaiv to the west bank of the Bug River, without reaching its target.
