The story begins with the discovery this week of a 30-meter-long tunnel dug between the basements of the High Court of Justice of Montenegro and a private apartment rented by unknown persons during the summer. The case immediately caused a stir but it was only yesterday that the authorities were able to establish the reason for digging this tunnel: several pistols had disappeared, which constituted evidence implicating officials of the Kavac Clan, a Montenegrin narco-cartel. particularly violent, specializing in cocaine trafficking between South America, the Balkans and Northern Europe.
Authorities suspect six people, currently on the run, of digging the tunnel for almost two months. They stole a lot of evidence and sealed it, presumably to complicate the work of the court in a large number of cases and thus undermine its effectiveness in the long term. For Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, this is the most significant criminal attack against the institutions of Montenegro. Abazovic brought together the country’s main security officials last night to define a response to this unprecedented theft.
