Since its launch at the end of April, the “Wuambushu” operation has obtained the support of a large part of the Mahorais. The Collective of Citizens of Mayotte 2018 is at the head of this fight. Its members, mostly women, notably blocked access to hospitals. Mobilized everywhere, they organized an operation on Wednesday May 24 to drive out Comorian women installed in front of the airport.
With our special correspondent in Mayotte, Lola Fourmy
It is with the traditional Mahoran song, the chengué, that the thirty women gathered on the morning of May 24 managed to scare away the Comorian women installed under a kiosk at Pamandzi airport, where they were selling necklaces of flowers. One of these Mahoraises confides:
” They were there, making their flowers. But the mothers came to tell them ”come on, you’re going out, get out”. And they left. Anyway, as soon as they saw that we were coming, they started talking, talking, but they left anyway. We don’t have to answer. »
” Let things go back to normal »
However, the women of the collective were not in direct competition with these Comorian women, since they no longer manufacture this traditional object. Their fight is elsewhere according to Enlaouia: We do not have time. I am here watching. I can’t sell and guard my island. »
If this episode may seem anecdotal, it is indeed a reconquest that these Mahoraises want to launch, like Safina Soula, spokesperson for the collective: “ Everything that is specific to our culture has been neglected. People woke up a little bit saying that we couldn’t leave Mayotte behind. We are flooded with illegal immigration, by insecurity. But there are salvageable situations, to get things back to normal. »
Holding a tough speech, these Mahoraises appeal to the army and mobilize almost daily to fight against immigration with a determination that seems flawless.
