Marvel Rivals is a new hero shooter on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series So you slip into the roles of various Marvel heroes and villains such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Thor. However, one of these heroes is currently benefiting from sending his teammates to their deaths.
Which hero is it about? The superhero Doctor Strange, known from comic books and films, is one of the “tank” category of playable characters in Marvel Rivals. He has a shield that protects him and allies from damage coming from the front. He can use this shield similar to Reinhard in Overwatch and activate or deactivate it depending on the situation.
He can also create a portal with the Pentagram of Farallah ability, which functions similarly to the portals in the games “Portal” and “Splitgate”. This means you set up 2 portals and can travel back and forth through them. You can also use these portals to see what is happening on the other side of the second portal and shoot enemies through them.
Use Doctor Strange’s ultimate ability, the Eye of Agamotto, to separate an opponent’s soul from their body. This allows you to deal double damage to affected enemies, so to speak, because the damage suffered by the soul is also transferred to the body. You can also cause damage to the body itself.
How can you charge the ult instantly? You can charge the Eye of Agamotto shortly after the start of a round by sending your fellow players to their deaths.
As content creator “Bogur” found out, Doctor Strange’s ult charge fills up when he sends team members to their deaths – heroes with a lot of life, i.e. tanks like Hulk, Venom or Thor, seem to be particularly worthwhile.
Here you can see a clip from the content creator on X.com showing the trick:
In order to have your ultimate ability charged with Doctor Strange right at the start of a round, your fellow players should choose tank heroes. You then have to place a portal so that your fellow players fall to their deaths when they travel through the portals. If all of your fellow players with tank heroes fall off the map through one of the portals, Doctor Strange should have his ultimate ready.
At the moment it is not clear whether Doctor Strange is actually supposed to get an ultimate recharge through team kills or whether this is an unintentional game error. It may well be that the developers will remove this approach from the game with a patch if it proves to be unwanted and too strong.
Marvel Rivals is a hotly debated game right now. It had 480,000 players on Steam shortly after its release and was sometimes criticized for its similarity to Overwatch. However, former Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra really embarrassed himself on the subject because he called a 50-year-old Marvel heroine an Overwatch copy: Former Blizzard boss calls Marvel Rivals an “Overwatch clone”, embarrassing himself badly
